Automated Testing Solutions

The time to build tru2way™ devices is here.  Building a solution is not a trivial task, and many hardware and software decisions need to be made. Once you build your device, you will need to test it before it can be deployed. Vidiom’s vCert™ Automated Test System provides a pre-configured, turnkey system that can help you reduce your time-to-market and take the complexity out of the tru2way device testing process.

Testing for Compliance
CableLabs provides a certification process for tru2way devices. Devices are tested for OCAP compliance using the OCAP Conformance Test Plan (CTP) and Automated Test Environment (ATE). Device manufacturers are required to pre-certify their devices before participating in an OCAP Certification Wave at CableLabs.

To pre-certify a device, a manufacturer must acquire the ATE package, hardware and software, and then build their test system.  As CableLabs updates their ATE hardware and software, manufacturers are required to update their systems to maintain compliance. Managing this complicated effort requires a team of dedicated resources with specialized skill sets.

Vidiom’s answer for pre-certification testing is vCert; an Automated Test System that provides a turnkey system for testing your tru2way devices without building and managing your own ATE. Vidiom’s test engineers have worked with CableLabs to design and develop the ATE package and written a number of the test suites used in the certification process.

The vCert system includes a custom user interface for managing your devices and test runs, a database for storing the results and the documentation and services to support it. Using vCert, now you can run all of the CTP tests on multiple devices simultaneously prior to entering a Certification Wave at CableLabs.

Testing for Deployment
Passing the CableLabs CTP allows you to certify your tru2way device; however, much more testing is needed to make sure your tru2way device is ready for deployment on a cable operator’s network.

To thoroughly test your tru2way device, Vidiom expanded vCert to support the standard JUnit test format as well as Vidiom’s auto-Xlet format. vCert includes JUnit tests that complement the CTP and allows you to add your own JUnit tests to the vCert test suite.

The auto-Xlet test format provides an editable XML script file for each test case that allows you to configure the remote control events used to drive the Xlet tests.  The vCert system then interprets the scripts and delivers the events in-band to the device. All of the results are stored in the vCert database and can be viewed through the vCert UI or output to a number of configurable report formats. Vidiom provides suites of pre-configured auto-Xlet tests including:
• DVR• Tuning• File access• Graphics speed

vCert can run multiple tests on multiple tru2way devices.
vCert was designed with an open architecture that lets you create your own test case managers and test subsystems, giving you complete control over your device testing processes and procedures. vCert is the industry’s only OCAP automated test system that allows you to use your existing test suites and provides capabilities for porting your test systems into the vCert environment.
