IP Over Cable

Vidiom Systems has developed an end-to-end solution for medium to small sized Cable Operators that provides IP video over Hybrid Fiber Cable (HFC) systems. The solution was developed to meet operator needs for more HD, migration path to IP, choice, and standards. It is a platform that moves the operator forward with a competitive solution without stranding the previous investment in legacy networks. This solution can be modified to meet the requirements of the operator as well as to best take advantage of the existing system or supplier relationships. The figure presented below shows the flow of video from the original source to consumer experience in their home, office or place of business. Video arrives from a variety of sources; it is ingested then managed through Vidiom’s Service Delivery Platform for billing, advertising, electronic guide and other applications then delivered through the appropriate network distribution protocol and is viewed through the CPE.

As a solutions provider, Vidiom works with the operator to identify and specify the requirements of the desired transition.  From these objectives, appropriate hardware and software partners are selected as well as the best CPE, based on performance and cost and a migration plan is developed.  Vidiom then managements the integration and deployment completely in conjunction with the operator’s personnel.  The first release of the IP Over Cable Solution integrates industry proven products and technologies from Avail-TVN, Verimatrix, BigBand Networks, and Harmonics.
